It's the autumn equinox tomorrow and the mornings will be darker and the nights will slowly get darker earlier. The leaves are turning and the shops are filling up with halloween stuff. The shadows at this time of year are wonderful, perfect for autumn photo taking.

birds in the wild
This is the Lord Howe woodhen, a species of flightless bird that is endemic to Lord Howe Island. They are an endangered bird and the island has worked really hard to protect and increase the population. In 1970 there were about 20 birds and now there are over 2,000 due to a program of rat eradication, and the removal of all cats & feral pigs.
You can see them wandering around everywhere on the island and they make lots of interesting sounds.
